Why You Are Probably Drinking Water The Wrong Way

How To Drink Water, and why you are doing it wrong.

Two thirds of the body is made up of water, so for the organs to function properly, adequate water is essential. That being said, when water is taken in the wrong way wrong way, it starts to work against us. Did you know that the reason for many debilitating health problems such:

  • migraines
  • joint pains
  • weakened digestion
  • skin problems
  • hair fall
  • lethargy
  • heart and kidney problems

can be attributed to drinking water incorrectly?

The worse part is that 95% of the people are drinking water in the wrong way, causing undue and unintentional harm to their bodies, instead of reaping the benefits from this miraculous drink. So if you want to finally start getting the benefits of water, read on and I will show you how drinking water the right way can really change your life.

The importance of water

Water is  very important for our bodies,  without it there is no way we can use the nutrients that come from carbs, proteins, and fats.

1. Relieve fatigue:

Water is used by the body to eliminate toxins and waste products. When there is less water in the body, the heart has to work harder to pump the oxygenated blood to all the cells and other major organs, this can  cause fatigue.

2. Avoid headaches and migraines:

In most cases, the main reason for headaches and migraines is dehydration.

3. Helps in digestion and prevents constipation:

When we drink enough water, the rate of metabolism is increased, so food we eat decomposes properly. This helps the digestive system work efficiently and prevents constipation.

4. Helps maintain the beauty of the skin

Water helps to replenish the skin’s tissues, as well as hydrate and increase its elasticity. When the body receives enough water, the skin will be hydrated. It also helps the skin with scars, acne, wrinkles and other symptoms of aging.

5. Regulates body temperature

The thermal properties of water, and its ability to release heat from the body when sweat evaporates from the surface of the skin, are ways of  maintaining body temperature throughout the day. A well-regulated body temperature will make us feel more energetic and keep our muscles and joints lubricated, avoiding cramping and sprains.

6. Reduce the risk of cancer

Some studies indicate that water consumption also reduces the risk of bladder and colon cancer.

7. Improves the immune system

When the body receives the right amount of water, it leads to an improvement in the immune system. Thus, it can fight against diseases like the flu, kidney stones and heart attack. It will also be of great help in dealing with health problems such as rheumatism, arthritis, etc.

8. Reduce the risk of heart problems

At the University of Loma Linda, in California, a study was conducted involving 20 thousand healthy people who drank 5 glasses of water a day.  It was shown that those who drank 5 glasses a day of water had a lower rate of cardiovascular problems compared to those who only had 2 glasses a day.

9. Solve bad breath

Bad breath is a clear sign that the body needs more water. Saliva helps your mouth to get rid of bacteria and keep the tongue hydrated. Therefore, every time we have bad breath, the first thing we should do is drink  water.

10. Help with weight loss

Water helps eliminate by-products from fat. When we drink water, the stomach fills reducing appetite. Water contains no calories, fat, carbohydrates or sugar and is a great replacement for high-calorie beverages.
Researchers from the University of Buffalo , New York, found that ingesting enough water hydrates the mucous membranes lining the nose, throat, bronchi and lungs , decreasing the likelihood of viral infections such as the common flu or influenza, bacterial infections ,  and the possibility, in people with asthma , of suffering an acute attack.

But just because water is beneficial doesn’t mean we can drink it in whatever manner we want. These are some of the great benefits of water, but I want to show you how you are drinking it wrong, so you can really see these benefits in your own body.

Stop drinking water before and after meals

drinking water after mealsDowning a glass of water after meals might be incredibly satisfying, however this is the worse thing that you can do to your body. When we eat a meal our body’s temperature increases for better digestion. But drinking water straight after meals instantly dilutes the gastric juices, reducing the body’s ability to digest food.

When this happens  way the food doesn’t get digested properly and rots within the system. When food rots within the system, not only does your body fail to absorb the nutrients, but it also creates problems such as bloating, gas, acidity etc. This is the reason  people complain about constantly eating healthy foods, but not seeing any benefits from it.

There are also some people, who you may be among, who try to lose weight, drinking gallons of water, but see no results. The reason is that
you are drinking water just before or after meals.

One small tip that I practice is instead of drinking lots of water  before or after a meal, I rinse my mouth with it, this really helps

Drinking water too fast

In a fast-paced world, people just want to grab a drink and go. However, mindless water drinking is really not going to do you any good in the long run. Hard as it is to believe, but in reality the way water enters your body can make a huge difference to the way it is processed by the body.

If you drink water too fast your body won’t accept it and will flush most of it out. This is exactly the opposite of what you want to happen. Moreover our stomach is acidic in nature, on the other hand saliva in our mouth is alkaline in nature.

The saliva’s job in our body is to stabilize the acid in our stomach. When we gulp a large amount of water at once, our saliva is diluted, so the atmosphere inside the stomach remains acidic. This may cause acidity in the digestion, bloating, gas etc. It could even cause weight gain because  the stomach fails to absorb the nutrients from the food and remove the unwanted material from the body.

Ideally we should slowly sip the water to start with, you can achieve this by drinking water from bottles with wider mouths, or use a glass cup.

Drinking chilled water

When you come back after a long day of work, do you go straight to the refrigerator and grab a bottle of chilled water to quench
your thirst? If  you answered yes to that, then you should stop. When you drink chilled water it can not only give you a sore throat, but it also
has serious adverse effects.

Firstly, cold water has an ability to shrink blood vessels. This really causes issues with the digestion,  restricting the digestion
process. Chilled water also goes and solidifies the fats from the food, this makes it tough for your body to break down the
unwanted fats.

As well as the digestive aspect, another adverse effect of drinking cold water is joint pains. There are many studies proving that chilled water
decreases the heart rate .

Whenever you can, you should drink water at room temperature, lukewarm water will be even better.  If you really need that cooler drinking water,
start using earthen pots. These are natural water coolers, and also help balance the pH of water, removing the impurities

Drinking too much water

This is a controversial one, since most people have learnt that drinking excessively is the best way to bring health to your body. I have come across people who forcefully drink water, even when they are not thirsty, just because they were told  more water means more benefits. Of course proper hydration is important, but excess of anything can be harmful, this also holds true for water.

Also, drinking water in excess dilutes the salts and other electrolytes in our body. Once this happens, there is an imbalance and the liquid
moves from blood to inside your body, making it swell. In the case of brain cells that seriously bad news.
having yellowish urine and past lips are

Drinking while standing

Another side effect of a fast paced life is that today people drink water not just standing but walking, or even as they run. When we drink water in standing position our kidneys are not able to filter the water properly. Along with this,  in the standing position your muscles and nervous system are not relaxed.

This it makes difficult for your body to properly assimilate the fluid, leading to a disruption in the balance of fluids in the
body. Once this happens, there is a greater chance of accumulation in the  joints thus leading to arthritis. So it really is best to sit down and take a moment to sip water, rather than race around gulping it down.

Best times to drink water – the right way

So these were some of the most common mistakes that people make while drinking water.  This should all give you some indications when, how much, and in what utensils you should be drinking water.
All this is to help you get more out of water drinking and not as an excuse to skip water. As mentioned above there are many many benefits to water, that every person should receive daily.

As discussed we talked about how saliva helps to neutralize the stomach acid, but did you know morning saliva is considered to be most
effective? So every morning, before brushing your teeth, drink some water.

Another time to drink water is a gap of at least one hour after the meals and 30 minutes before the meals.

How much water should I drink

The amount of water to drink in a day depends on many factors. For example, individuals who are constantly physically active, need more water than someone who’s inside all day in the shade.  Our bodies also get water from various foods like fruits and vegetables,  so it would be unfair to give a fixed quantity.

It is a good idea to see how your body responds to certain amounts of water, and drink accordingly.  Generally speaking, 2.5 to 3 liters per
day is good enough.

In which utensil should we drink water?

Water can be consumed from any utensil. However, if you drink water from a copper vessels, the benefits get multiplied. It is recommended to store water in a copper vessel and night before keep it near you, preferably on a wooden surface and have this water first thing in the morning.

Ensure that  you drink from the copper vessel itself, rather than transferring it into any other metal container. If you can drink this copper charged water for just 3 months, you will be amazed at the difference it makes to your body.

Water is life, it is the panacea for a lot of health problems, all we need to do is drink it the right way.
